Has a plastic coated bottom to protect your paint for the most direct contact without direct contact.
Anything more in the way of the magnet will compromise the magnetic draw putting your equipment in danger.
Note that using other than flat surface mounting, may pierce plastic. Easily replaced by masking tape or duct tape to protect paint.
I recommend when removing from a nice car surface, to
NOT
slide off to the side and remove,
i suggest to leave buckle in mount, use as leverage and pry it off to the side
so there is no sliding on the surface to damage paint.
I use it alot without damage to my car finish.
Buy one solely for cars, and another for other surfaces!
Also a good idea is to tether it with a rope or lanyard in the event it gets knocked off,
you dont lose it without notice on a track or the bottom of the ocean.
