Collins KWM-1 Vintage Transceiver (REDUCED PRICE)

Description

This Collins KWM-1 Transceiver is not working. The transmitter has some problem and I do not think it has has an RF output. The push to talk feature of the Collins Model SM-3 Dynamic microphone appears to work normally. The optional noise blanker, with its separate antenna, was not tested. The final amplifier plate current meter indicates some current but it does not appear to be an excessive current. All switches on the front panel seem to move normally but there is a problem with the correct motion of the  EMISSION switch.
The cover for the RF power amplifier has been missing for many years. Since the plate voltage on the power amplifier is about 700 volts, care must be taken when the top cover to the transceiver is open as this voltage is also present whenever the transceiver is turned on. The power and signal connector, at the back of the transceiver, was of a unique design. The wiring to this connector is kind of sloppy and the protective cover for this connector is missing. This is shown in the last photo.
The power supply is not a Collins product but was manufactured for the KWM-1 by Topaz Electronics, a transformer manufacturer that used to be located in San Diego, CA. This power supply also includes a built-in speaker.
I originally purchased this transceiver new in 1958. I used it mobile for a couple of years and then as my base station for about 8 years. During this time I changed the Collins mechanical filter from 3.1kHz to 2.4kHz for improved SSB selectivity and changed one of the crystals to provide coverage from 14.1 to 14.2 MHz. I think I may have also changed the 28 MHz crystal to provide some coverage of the CB band. When I moved, this transceiver was placed in storage for about 20 years. When I finally put a beam on the roof of my new house, I used this transceiver from time to time. When I fired up this transceiver prior to listing in Ebay, I saw that the transceiver did not work.
The original manual is well worn, contain lots of my personal notes, and is marked up to a very high degree. The copy of the KWM-1 manual shown in the next to last photo is very clean. By the way, this KWM-1 is serial number 17.
Due to the weight of the power supply, the transceiver and microphone will be shipped separate from its power supply. The transceiver will be shipped insured.
This listing is only for the KWM-1, its Topaz power supply, the Collins microphone, about 12 spare, but used tubes, and some documentation listed above. The listing does not include any equipment used to test the transceiver.
