Description
This is the Russian Federation's Izlom Camouflage Oversuit, used mainly by its Special Forces ("Spetsnaz" in Russian). The Oversuit has a unique camouflage pattern and color usage that appears to have been inspired by the following: Dot-44 used by the Waffen SS, owing to the tan sprinkles over the darker background; and German Flecktarn, due to its fleck pattern. Unlike both however, the tan spots inspired by the former are not as scattered, and unlike the latter, the shape of the "flecks" are jagged and geometric. Not only that, Izlom coloration is not mostly green but is mixed evenly of dark green, brown, and black colors.
The pattern overall is meant for the dark forests of Europe like the German Flecktarn, but with its Dot-44 style sprinklings, it can also blend well to the ground, where there's rays of light illuminating the ground, or tan brush or dead leaves scattered on dark soil. It can be considered a compromise between multi-terrain applicability of Dot-44, and woodland utility.
To see just how effective it is, please see the following video, "Russian Izlom Camouflage Effectiveness" by Brent0331 https://youtu.be/sw1RYl56JlA?si=lYYSLkwca4DcnolF
With that said a surprising benefit is that when it is turned inside out, it can also be used in autumn/fall environment where there is an abundance of tans and browns, wheatfield, as well as in most arid landscape. It resembled that of Pencott Badlands pattern, and to a lesser degree, WW2 Waffen SS M42 Oakleaf Autumn pattern, and the Russian Partizan-M SSO (Fall/Autumn side). The problem is that the zipper liner and pockets are dark, but it is less of an issue if the user is prone or wearing a vest.
Designed to be worn over the soldier's uniform, the oversuit itself is both light and easily compacted to be stowed in one's rucksack, or small carry bag. Despite its thinness and lightness, it is quite durable. It features two front pockets for the upper chest which is closed in place by velcros, two other pockets above the waist, and two pockets for the pants. Cargo pockets not featured. Finally, the end of the sleeve, waistband, and pant leg is elastic band sown in, and a drawstring for the hood.
The oversuit is used but is in excellent condition. No signs of wear and tear, and colors are not faded.
