Description
Nicely framed Toshi Yoshida woodblock print. Signed in pencil lower right, originally published 1968. Image is is about 14 1/4" x 9 3/4". Print has over all light toning. It is top hinge mounted, with tape, that at some point will require professional removal from its mount. I have removed as much original acid mount materials from framing and replaced with all acid free material. The print is quite lovely and displays very well in its original frame. I have attached a picture of the original gallery label. One of the most famous Japanese woodblock print artists of the 20th century, Toshi Yoshida was the eldest son of Hiroshi Yoshida (1876-1950), one of the most successful print-makers in the Shin-hanga movement, who specialized in the subject of landscape. During his artistic career, Toshi Yoshida struggled to balance staying loyal to his father and developing his own style, while seeking how to renew the declining Ukiyo-e tradition as a Shin-hanga artist. After his father's death in 1950 he carried on the family tradition. From the early 1960s he returned to figurative art focusing on scenes of wildlife and continued working in that particular style until 1995, the last year of his life.
