The following passages come from the Facebook Page of Lu Fang and describe his work and background...
Mr. Lu Fang is a famous Chinese printmaker. He is the representative of Chinese watermark wood carving, China academy of fine arts professor. His works can be found in the British museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other large art museums around the world.
Waterprint-Woodblock have always had only one printing method, with the paper dry and the paint wet. And Lu Fang original double wet printing, is wet paper wet pigment. Rice paper is very easy to be damaged after wet, hard to take hold, and wet paper absorption pigment ability is only dry paper 10-20%, repeated rubbing times more than 4-5 times. The color of rubbing on wet paper will vary greatly after the paper is dry, so this is a difficult technique to master. The visual effect of this technology is very different from that of dry printing. Color is mixed however day becomes, the moist of water, the gene that nature contains wind frost rain snow.  ***This technique
is what gives the body of the Pagoda a nearly 3-D effect in the woodblock.
