Description
Yaesu VX-3R-works for transmission in the VHF (140...174MHz) and UHF (420...470MHz) bands, and for reception in the range of 0.5...999.99 MHz. The frequency setting step is 5...100 kHz. For transmission, FM modulation is used, and for reception (depending on the range) – FM, WFM or AMThe flexible spiral antenna included in the basic kit is designed for operation in the amateur bands of 2 meters and 70 cm, and for receiving AM broadcasting stations, the station is equipped with a built-in magnetic antenna. To work on other frequencies, you can purchase more efficient mono-band antennas, but be prepared for the fact that their size will be several times higher than the height of the radio station itself. To improve the quality and range of communication
to improve the quality of reception, you can connect external specialized antennas equipped with a coaxial SMA-plug connector to the VX-3R walkie-talkie or connect them using the optional CN-3 SMA-BNC and CN-4 SMA-UHF RF adapters. The radio is equipped with a built-in, switchable RF attenuator that lowers the received signal level by 20 dB, which can make it easier for you to receive them if you are close to its source. The power of the radio transmitter has two gradations: low (Low) – 0.1 and 0.3 W when an external power source is connected, and high (Hi) - 1.5(1)or 3(2) W depending on the power source and the operating frequency range.
In the basic configuration, the Yaesu VX-3R is powered by a FNB-82LI Li-Ion battery (3.7 V/1000mA/h) with no memory effect, which is charged from the AC power supply using the PA-46C adapter included in the basic package or from the car's boron network, using the purchased E-DC-21 adapter. With the optional FBA-37 case, the radio can also be powered by three AA-size alkaline cells, which is especially useful for long-term use of the radio in the field, where it is easier to get it. The VX-3R can also be powered by an external power supply of suitable power (max. 7V, 1.8 A). To increase the radio station's operating time from the built-in power supply, the power-saving functions, "sleep mode" and auto-off when there is no activity in a certain period of time will help. In the VX-3R radio, it is possible to work in channels with the organization of working groups by assigning them CTCSS tone subtones or digital DCS codes, both directly in simplex mode and in half-duplex, through repeaters with standard or non-standard frequency difference and with a protective tone of 1750Hz. And through the optional CT-91 adapter, the radio station can be connected to a controller (TNC) for packet communication.
The VX-3R model has a fairly large memory with a well-developed organization, which includes:
- 900 working channels that can be grouped into 24 banks of up to 100 channels each. Any channel can be assigned to one or more banks
- 99 channels skipped during scanning;
- 1 emergency channel;
- 11 "home" channels;
- more than 140 factory-programmed frequencies of marine VHF channels and HF broadcast stations.
- 50 pairs of edge frequencies of the scan ranges.
Each memory cell or bank can be assigned a name up to 6 characters long. The function of scanning the reception frequencies has several modes: scanning a continuous range, a set range from memory, channels from memory, with a pass and priority, "smart search" , etc. Programming settings and memory can be done directly on the radio station, but it can be done much more efficiently using a personal computer. The optional ADMS-VX3 (RS-232) and ADMS-VX3U (USB) kits are designed for this purpose. The settings and memory contents of one VX-3R radio station can be copied directly to another (cloned) using an optional CT-27 cable or an audio cable equipped with 3.5 mm stereo jack connectors.
The radio station settings and active functions, as well as the received signal level and battery charge, are displayed on a high-contrast LCD display with multiple backlight modes (along with the keyboard). The functions are activated and their parameters are adjusted via the menu containing 94 items. Some frequently used functions are assigned to special buttons.
The Yaesu VX-3R amateur radio transceiver is equipped with the ARTS system, which allows you to continuously monitor the location of a radio station in the radio visibility zone of another radio station (with the same system activated), as well as to signal the exit from this zone. The "Emergency Identification" (EAI) function can make it easier to find a radio station in extreme conditions when the operator is unable to answer the call. The radio controls may be partially or completely blocked from accidentally changing the settings. And the VX-3R can be protected from unauthorized use by a full password lock. The VX-3R walkie-talkie has a few more interesting features:
- "Message” - allows you to exchange 20 pre-recorded text messages up to 16 characters long with a similar radio station;
- "CW-learner" - helps in learning the telegraph alphabet by ear;
- measurement of the power supply voltage;
- measuring the temperature inside the radio housing;
- ability to program the ring tone;
- stereo reception of FM broadcast programs.
